Privacy Policy

    Last updated: March 2025

    Overview

stickdrift.app is operated from Australia and is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

This policy applies to all users of stickdrift.app whether you use the site anonymously or with a registered account. By using stickdrift.app you agree to the collection and use of information described in this policy.

This policy is governed by the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). If you have questions about this policy please contact us via the stickdrift.app website.

    Who We Are

stickdrift.app is a free community platform for testing and tracking controller stick drift. The site allows users to test their gaming controllers using the browser Gamepad API and submit results to a public community leaderboard.

References to 'we', 'us' or 'stickdrift.app' in this policy refer to the operator of stickdrift.app, based in Australia.

    What Information We Collect

    Account Holders

If you create a free account on stickdrift.app we collect:

    • Your name — used to personalise your account and display on your optional public profile
    • Your email address — used for account authentication and any account-related communications

We do not collect payment information, phone numbers, physical addresses or any government identifiers. We collect only what is necessary to provide the service.

    Anonymous Users

If you use stickdrift.app without creating an account we do not collect your name or email address. However we do store the following:

    • An anonymous user ID generated and stored in your browser's local storage. This ID is used to associate your test results across sessions and to apply rate limiting. It is not linked to your identity.
    • Your IP address in hashed form — see the section below on IP addresses.
    • Drift test results you submit including axis values, drift scores, controller model, connection type and controller age if provided.

    IP Addresses

When you submit a drift test result stickdrift.app collects your IP address for spam prevention and rate limiting purposes. Your IP address is immediately converted to a one-way cryptographic hash before being stored. The original IP address is never stored.

The hashed value cannot be reversed to identify your IP address. It is used only to detect and prevent abuse such as bulk fake submissions or attempts to manipulate the leaderboard.

    Browser and Device Information

When you connect a controller and run a test the browser Gamepad API returns a controller ID string which may include information about the controller model and connection type. This string is stored as part of your test submission and is used to identify the controller model.

We do not collect information about your browser version, operating system, screen size or other device characteristics beyond what is described in this policy.

    Test Results and Community Data

All drift test results you submit — whether as an anonymous user or an account holder — become the property of stickdrift.app as set out in our Terms of Use. This data is displayed publicly on the leaderboard and controller pages and may be used in aggregated statistics and research.

    How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

    • To provide and operate the stickdrift.app service
    • To associate your test results with your account or anonymous ID across sessions
    • To display community drift data, leaderboards and statistics publicly
    • To prevent spam, abuse and manipulation of community data
    • To authenticate your account and manage your login session
    • To send you account-related communications where applicable
    • To improve the site based on usage patterns and community data

We do not use your personal information for advertising purposes. We do not display targeted advertising on stickdrift.app.

    Email Communications

stickdrift.app does not currently send marketing or promotional emails. The only emails we send are directly related to your account — for example authentication emails when you sign in.

If you create an account you may optionally enable email alerts for controller sale notifications and leaderboard changes. These alerts are off by default and can be turned on or off at any time from your account dashboard. They are not marketing emails — they are service alerts you have specifically requested.

We will update this policy if we introduce any new categories of email communication.

    Local Storage and Cookies

stickdrift.app uses your browser's local storage to:

    • Store your anonymous user ID so your test history persists across visits without requiring an account
    • Store your login session if you create an account
    • Remember UI preferences such as dismissed banners

We do not use advertising cookies or third party tracking cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or any similar analytics service that tracks your behaviour across other websites.

You can clear local storage at any time through your browser settings. Doing so will remove your anonymous user ID and any locally stored test history that has not been saved to an account.

    Third Party Services

    Supabase

stickdrift.app uses Supabase to host its database and manage user authentication. Your account data and test results are stored on Supabase's servers. Supabase is an Irish-registered company with servers in various regions. By using stickdrift.app you acknowledge that your data may be processed on Supabase's infrastructure.

Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.

    Amazon Associates

stickdrift.app participates in the Amazon Associates affiliate program. Controller pages on the site include affiliate links to Amazon. When you click an affiliate link Amazon may set cookies on your device in accordance with Amazon's own privacy policy.

stickdrift.app does not receive any personal data from Amazon about users who click affiliate links. We receive only aggregate commission information.

Amazon's privacy policy is available at amazon.com.au/privacy.

    No Other Third Party Services

Beyond Supabase and Amazon Associates, stickdrift.app does not currently share your data with any other third party services. We do not use advertising networks, social media tracking pixels or third party analytics platforms.

    Sharing Your Information

stickdrift.app does not sell your personal information. We do not share your name or email address with any third party for their marketing purposes.

We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

    • With Supabase as our database and authentication provider — as described above
    • If required to do so by Australian law, court order or regulatory authority
    • To protect the rights, property or safety of stickdrift.app, its users or the public

We may in the future share anonymised and aggregated community drift data — for example average drift scores per controller model — with researchers, journalists or third party developers. This data cannot be used to identify individual users.

We will update this policy if we introduce any new data sharing arrangements that involve personal information.

    Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account your name and email address will be removed from our systems.

Test results and community submissions you have made are owned by stickdrift.app under our Terms of Use and may be retained after account deletion as part of the community dataset. These submissions are not linked to your name or email after your account is deleted.

Anonymous user data including hashed IP addresses and test submissions linked to anonymous IDs are retained indefinitely as part of the community dataset. Anonymous submissions are not linked to any identifiable personal information.

    Your Rights

    Accessing Your Information

You have the right to request access to the personal information stickdrift.app holds about you. To make an access request please contact us via the stickdrift.app website. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act.

    Deleting Your Account

You can delete your account at any time from your account settings page. On deletion your name and email address will be permanently removed from our systems. As noted above community submissions you have made may be retained as part of the anonymised dataset.

If you have enabled email alerts you can turn them off at any time from your account dashboard on a per-controller basis. You do not need to delete your account to stop receiving alerts.

    Children's Privacy

stickdrift.app does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The site does not have an age restriction however if you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information please contact us and we will remove it promptly.

    Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. These measures include:

    • Storing all data on Supabase's secure infrastructure
    • Hashing IP addresses before storage so original addresses are never retained
    • Using secure HTTPS connections for all data transmission
    • Applying row-level security policies so users can only access their own account data

No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While we take reasonable precautions we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you become aware of any security issue please contact us immediately.

    Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent version. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

If we make significant changes to how we handle personal information we will make reasonable efforts to notify account holders via email before the changes take effect.
